3D Indicators - Why they work!

Little known by professionals, 3D indicators should belong to any serious machining operation. Edge finders never tell how much the axis moved after the instrument's status changed. So the approach is done again, and maybe one more time just to be on the safe side. But with this indicator starting to indicate .1" ahead of zero, it is an easy task to bring both hands (analog) to zero, or watching the numbers (digital) go to zero. At any time the operator can see where he is! No guess work. It does not matter how the instrument is aligned with the axis, it will always show the correct distance from 360° around the probe, including the Z axis. This makes it by far the most universal indicator. With the 3D indicator and the machine's coordinate system, parts are easily and accurately measured. Seeking the center of a bore or a shaft is easily accomplished. The detailed instructions give all the information needed.
